About Me

Sonja S. Keating is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel for the United States Equestrian Federation, the national governing body for equestrian sport. She has served the organization for over 14 years. Keating leads the organization’s Safe Sport initiative, serves as a legal and business advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team, counsels the Board of Directors on all legal and governance issues, and manages all civil litigation.

Ms. Keating currently serves as the Kentucky Bar Association Equine Law Section Chair, a member of the Planning Committee for the National Conference on Equine Law, and a member of the Blue Grass Charity Foundation Board of Directors. Additionally, she served on the U.S. Olympic Committee NGB Task Force aimed to develop harmonious standards among the national governing bodies to address athlete abuse in sport. This led to the adoption of minimum standards for all national governing bodies’ safe sport initiatives and the creation of the U.S. Center for SafeSport.

Ms. Keating earned a B.A. from Transylvania University and a law degree from the University of Kentucky. She is a graduate of the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management’s Olympic Sport Leadership Certification Program and the Lexington Chamber of Commerce Leadership Lexington Program.  Prior to joining US Equestrian, Keating practiced in the litigation department at Dinsmore & Shohl.
